The use of Opiates and CDs that can drug a child

Postby Marcus66 » Sun Dec 02, 2007 1:34 am

Hi folks.

Back again in a new surrounding.

Feels strange as I have learnt and seen so much in the past few months.

I hope I can be of any assistance.

Marcus,

I think i asked you before, but it seems to have got lost in the massive thread in another place,

could you give me your opinions on antihistamine being used as a sedative for children and possible long term effects, and the ability to find in hair samples.

thank you

There's a discussion elsewhere about "night-time" Calpol; what are your views on selling a drug to help children sleep over the counter?

Hi Marcus - I posted this on the Mirror Forum yesterday, but it seems appropriate here.

Whilst in Tesco's yesterday, queuing at the Pharmacy, the lady in front of me asked the Pharmacist for some Medised. The Pharmacist said that it was Tesco's policy to no longer stock Medised, because it has been linked to heavy sedation of young children. He said that the antihistimine it contained was so strong, that the danger of death from deep sedation (i e child forgets to breathe) was so worrying that Tescos had decided to stop stocking it.

When my three were small and had chicken pox, I gave them Medised to give them some relief from the terrible itching. I never gave them more than the minimum dose, and find it worrying that its now considered unsafe by such a huge national pharmacy. Do you have any opinions please?

Some other pharmacies still stock it.

The Effects of Opiates and OTC Medicines on Children

Postby Marcus66 » Wed Jan 30, 2008 12:40 am

Hi

If anyone is still interested in the effects of drug administration and the interactions of drugs with minors please post.

I apologize for the lack of posts but due to two reasons :

1. I have just sold my pharmacy and I am now locuming.

2. All this media propoganda of recent as had my blood boiling and I did not
feel my contribution would have been constructive.

regards,

Marcus
