Oh my God!

I wonder who the father is if this is true?

Craig Meehan his uncle, or some other man!

SHANNON MOTHER MAY BE PREGNANT

THE mother of Shannon Matthews is thought to be pregnant with her eighth child.

Karen Matthews, currently in prison accused of child neglect and perverting the course of justice in relation to the hunt for nine-year-old Shannon, already has seven children by five different fathers.

And neighbours on the tough Dewsbury Moor estate in Dewsbury, West Yorks, where she lives are convinced the 32-year-old is expecting once again.

Last night one of her friends said: "People keep saying Karen is in the family way again. Given what's happened already that would be no surprise.

"She is a bit of a baby factory. It's rare for her not to be expecting, which-ever man she is with."

Matthews is on suicide watch at New Hall Prison near Wakefield, West Yorks, where she is being held on an isolation wing for her own protection.

Her former partner, 22-year-old supermarket fishmonger Craig Meehan, is also being kept in jail for his own safety, awaiting trial on child-pornography charges.

Karen left him when child porn was allegedly found on his home computer by detectives.

His mother, Alice Meehan, 49, and his sisters Caroline Meehan, 29, and Amanda Hyett, 25, have been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in relation to the 24-day hunt for Shannon. Craig's uncle Mick Donovan, 39, has been charged with abducting the schoolgirl, who was found by police in the base of a divan bed at his flat in Dewsbury.

Dozens of detectives are still working on the case and the Sunday Express understands that more arrests are imminent.

Feelings on the Dewsbury Moor estate, where desperately worried families spent many hours hunting for Shannon, are running high.

Police even took the highly unusual step of holding a meeting at a local school so they could appeal to the community to keep calm.

Council officials have boarded up the semi-detached house shared by Matthews and Meehan, and police are monitoring the area to prevent it being attacked by vigilantes.

A pink magnolia tree the couple planted in their front garden to mark the day that Shannon was found has been dug up and replanted at a nearby high school to prevent it being damaged.

Petra Jamieson, 30, one of the few on the estate to remain friendly with Matthews, said: "I know people are angry with Karen, but this is Shannon's tree and she is the innocent one in the middle of all this."

Another close friend of Karen Matthews told how she has been abused by strangers for refusing to denounce her pal and has been banned from visiting her in prison.

She said: "I am being treated as a witness and so I can't speak to her, although I am allowed to write to her as long as I don't mention the case.

"I am going to stand by her. It doesn't mean I don't have the same questions everyone else does, but what sort of friend would I be if I abandoned her now? I'm still not going to jump to any conclusions."

Among the many shocked by last week's developments is disabled Winston Bedford, 67, of Wakefield, who suffers from heart disease but still gave his £500 life savings to the fund set up when Shannon went missing. Last night he said: "I know we will find out the full truth when it all eventually comes to court, but right now I just feel I've been taken for a ride.

"I can't get out of my head how many people were out searching high and low for little Shannon. After handing over my money I've kept a close eye on what's been going on. It beggars belief. I feel used. I was born and bred in Dewsbury and have a fondness for the decent working class people that come from there, but this has shaken my faith in humanity.

"With Shannon being found at her stepfather's uncle's place and then all these members of her family being arrested I'm just disgusted."

Church leaders in Dewsbury also gave £1,000 to the fund. A meeting of the fund's trustees is to be held this week to decide what to do with the cash. It is likely to be spent on community projects in Dewsbury Moor.

Rev Kevin Partington, vicar of Dewsbury Minster, said: "There is a real sense of shock in the community. All will be revealed I suppose and we won't judge anyone until all the facts come out."

Asked if Matthews was pregnant, her solicitor Roger Clapham said last night: "I cannot discuss anything with regard to my client at this stage."
