I know first hand what can go on, and the police have no power over it, i lived on a council estate for many years so did my brother, it was a good but tough estate till the druggies took over, one night my two nephews were mugged and had there cycles took in front of there house, my brother had just got home from work he heard the the shouts of his sons and ran outside he was kicked and beaten and ended up in hospital with broken ribs and severe brusing they all put the boot in a gang of several youths, 2 nights later he was petrol bombed his car and the front of the house, the police told him they knew the family and had been trying to get them removed from the estate, but for his familys safety he should leave his home, end of story they had to move from where he had lived all his life and start again, thats how good the police were, different scenario i know but if people on an estate want to do something they will

11th April 2008 By Jerry Lawton

The grandmother and two aunts of Shannon Matthews were arrested yesterday by police probing the schoolgirl's disappearance.

Detectives spent seven hours quizzing Amanda Hyett, 25, her sister Caroline Meehan, 29, and their mum Alice Meehan, 49, on allegations of perverting the course of justice.

All three are related to Shannon's stepdad Craig Meehan, 22, who is due back in court today on 11 charges of possessing child porn.

Amanda and Caroline, who is an office administrator, are Meehan's sisters while Alice is his mum.

They were released on police bail last night pending further inquiries. They left a police station where Amanda's husband Neil, 35, was waiting.

The women were arrested 24 hours after Shannon's 32-year-old mum Karen Matthews appeared in court charged with perverting justice and child neglect.

I didn't even know Shannon was missing until a day after she disappeared when my boyfriend phoned me at work. I was as shocked as everyone else Shannon's aunt Caroline Meehan

The charges allege she hid from police that she knew where Shannon was when the nine-year-old was missing for 24 days.

Matthews was remanded in custody for her own safety after locals in Dewsbury, West Yorks, who think they wasted three weeks searching for her daughter vowed revenge.

Detectives are trying to determine how many of the youngster's family knew where she was. They are probing claims some may have plotted to hide the truth to cash in on her disappearance. Some relatives have sold their stories for up to £135,000.

Yesterday's arrests brought the number of people held over Shannon's disappearance to five – four of whom are women.

It was the second time Amanda – who lived next door to Shannon – and Alice had been arrested. They spent a day being quizzed by detectives last week.

Alice, who lived a mile from Shannon, was originally questioned on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Moments before her arrest Caroline said: "I'm not worried, I've got nothing to hide. What would I gain from something like this?

"I didn't even know Shannon was missing until a day after she disappeared when my boyfriend phoned me at work. I was as shocked as everyone else.''

Her partner Rob Baines, 29, a car parts supervisor, said she was "totally innocent''.

He said: "I don't know why this happened but it may be because of something Karen has said to the police. I hope the truth comes out and Caroline can clear her name.

"If I thought that she was capable of something like that I would have left her a long time ago. I know 100% that she is not involved.''

Last night, locals warned feelings were running high against the family. Neighbour Roy Sheard, 35, a heavy goods driver, said: "If they are all involved, they'll have to face the consequences.

"I put money into the fund to find Shannon and I feel like I've been kicked in the teeth.

"I'll be surprised if Karen's house is still standing by the end of the week. There are a lot of angry people around here."

Meehan's uncle Michael Donovan, 39, is awaiting trial charged with kidnapping and falsely imprisoning Shannon.
To my critics
When I'm in a sober mood, I worry, work and think,
When I'm in a drunken mood, I gamble, play and drink,
But when my moods are over and my time has come to pass,
I hope I'm buried upside down, so the world may kiss my ar*e

Thanks for that Monkeyman and Bjr. Doesn't that just get all? Little Shannon and her younger brothers are going to go through a lot of repurcusions, and I do hope they keep them together. xox
