Breaking news on sky a 7yrs old starve to death

If you have problems then perhaps one of the members might have a suggestion or tell you how they coped with a certain situation. Also we could post links for all children that are missing and need to be found. All aspects of child welfare discussed here, new and old cases. Children that have been let down by Social Services and the authorities.

Update on the story....

Police were tipped of by neighbour Emma Murphy after she had seen the children enter her garden to eat the bread she had thrown for the birds. The police entered the house in Leyton Road, Handsworth at 5.45am on Saturday morning, they found all 6 children lying on matresses, Khyra seriously ill the others, 3 boys and 2 girls, emaciated.
Khyra was pronouced dead on arrival at the hospital, it is thought that the other children have now been released (don't know who to, ss i would guess).

Angela Gordon split with the childrens father several years ago and had recently converted to islam, i would expect this was a result of her relationship with Junaid Abuhamza. Both have been charged with neglect and remanded in custody until later this month (28th i think).

I have seen a picture of the little girl, she was beautiful.

Edited to add this
The pair, believed to be Khyra's mother and stepfather, were remanded in custody until 28 May.

A Birmingham Crown Court spokesman said Ms Gordon and Mr Abuhamza would appear at the court for a preliminary hearing on that date (28th May), charged with causing or allowing the death of a child between 9 May and 17 May.

UPDATE

Police received a call at 5am on the 17th May following complaints from Khyra of breathing difficulties. The police found all six children on one mattress. Khyra was prounouced dead on arrival and the other five children are still in hospital.

Birmingham Perry Barr MP Khalid Mahmood has called for Birmingham City Council to begin an inquiry into the girl's death.

The Labour MP said he understood that Khyra and her siblings were removed from school about 10 weeks ago amid claims that they were being bullied.

An educational social worker then paid a visit to the seven-year-old's family home, and no further follow-up checks took place, Mr Mahmood said.

I hate it when a story first breaks the info is so misleading and confused. Does this mean that Khyra dialled 999 or one of the other children or perhaps the mother or stepfather? Earlier reports claimed that the neighbour, Emma Murphy, informed the police after seeing the children eat bread thrown for the birds in her garden.

Just goes to show how information can be wrong and confused in breaking news.

How terrible. It makes me wonder why some people want children at all, because they don't want, or can't, take care of them. And if they didn't have money to buy food they could have asked for help. I feel sad for those poor children.

This case has similarities of another case, Heidi Koseda. Heidi was well cared for until her parents spilt and the mother hooked up with a dominant male, the mother had a week personality and was easily controlled by her new partner. Heidi's mother bore two children to her new partner, Heidi was cast aside and locked in a bedroom and left to die of starvation and thirst. The family in the months leading up to Heidi's death withdrew from the world, living in isolation.

I would not be surprised if the mother is of similar trait as Rosemary Koseda (Heidi's mother) given her recent convert to islam and the current partners religious belliefs.

This was not poverty, probably not neglect, but abuse.

There is no real poverty in the UK, not in comparison to other places in the world.

This is why we have housing benefit, child benefit, child tax credits, working families tax credits, council tax benefits...

The citizens advice bureau....ways of wiping out entire debts.....support agencies....need I go on.

There is no excuse for a child to STARVE TO DEATH in this country.

This is not poverty. This is abuse.

Betty well said, it will be interesting to find out the backgound of these parents, in regards to were social services ever involved, is this just another case, they have turned a blind eye to.

Shame another innocent child, probably spent her entire life suffering so much unnesesary pain.

Good job done by social services yet again!! 10 weeks out of school and no check ups!! Seems that the mccann's and mates leaving their babies is another slip up, but they have only one missing so far!! Of course no arrests!! How far does one have to go before the government cracks down on child abuse??

you're right betty.
starvation does not happen over a few days, this has been prolonged neglect. evil people.
hope the other children are safe now. I'd imagine they will be in care now, if only they had been sooner.

I wonder were the adults starving or did they manage to find enough food for themselves?

I would have starved myself in order for my child to eat.

We cannot pass all the blame to ss (as much as i hate to say it), we as a society fail children everyday. All to often people see the warning signs but do nothing, under that "people" umbrella are school teachers, dinner ladies, doctors, health visitors, neighbours, family, the general unknown public....the list goes on.

Betty you are spot on, in this day and age in the UK there is no valid reason for a child to starve to death whilst living on state welfare. This is clearly an issue of child neglect and abuse at its worst and more than likely the tragic ending could have been prevented had certain persons been more through, vigilant and competant in their given roles, sadly a repeating scenario. The words "lessons will be learnt" will be said but this is just a kick in the teeth in the wake of Laming's report.
