Having tried a Dyson (they really are gimmicky rubbish) and never having tried the Miele one, I can highly recommend a Henry by NuMatic. I had a George many years ago (they shampoo the carpet too) and my current Henry is about 9 years old and going strong. It's dealt with the hair off four different dogs in it's lifetime and doesn't get bunged up with hair like the Dysons do. You can even get a Henry Hound which will be my next one. The only minor disadvantage is one of my previous dogs HATED the face on Henry and threw a wobbly every time I vacuumed the floor.
Thought for the day: Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.
